Philips automotive lighting products, developed by Lumileds, move into the world’s number one national touring car championship, with sportscar ace, Tom Oliphant.

Continuing on from two successful years of partnership with Tom Oliphant, Lumileds and its automotive lighting brand Philips will this year adorn the brand-new Mercedes that the former Ginetta Supercup Champion, and Porsche Cup race winner will be using in his campaign for honours as he makes the step up to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

London, UK – Continuing on from two successful years of partnership with Tom Oliphant, Lumileds and its automotive lighting brand Philips will this year adorn the brand-new Mercedes that the former Ginetta Supercup Champion, and Porsche Cup race winner will be using in his campaign for honours as he makes the step up to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

Widely rated as one of the top national championships across the entire world of motorsport, the BTCC is also one of the most competitive series around, with a huge fan-base and media coverage that extends far beyond the UK.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our association with Tom,” enthuses Richard Armstrong of Lumileds. “He is a talented and intelligent driver and it should come as no surprise that we wanted to make the step up with Tom into BTCC – so we can showcase ourselves in a top-of-the-line race series, echoing the Lumileds ethos of producing the highest quality automotive products. The fit is excellent.”

The car carrying Philips automotive product branding and hopes of success this year is a Mercedes A180 run by one of BTCC’s top teams, Ciceley Motorsports, where Tom joins experienced BTCC race campaigner, Adam Morgan.

The prospect of racing in the team for 2018 is something Tom is hugely looking forward to. “We had the chance to move into this fantastic championship in what should be a competitive team, so I grabbed it. I am delighted that we have been able to bring Lumileds and its automotive lighting brand Philips into this arena,” enthuses Tom. “Representing one of the world’s leading brand names in one of the world’s leading championships, well it doesn’t really get much better…. Unless we win it, of course! But it is an incredibly tight and competitive championship and, realistically this is very much a learning year.

“We will again, of course, actually be using Philips automotive lighting products throughout the race campaign this year, both in terms of bulbs for the car and also in the garage, where the team will be making use of the fantastic range of Philips LED professional work lights.”

The BTCC kicks off at the famous Brands Hatch circuit just outside London, on April 07-08.

As a leading lighting solutions company for the automotive industry, Lumileds is licensed to use the Philips brand for its automotive lighting and accessories product portfolio.
